Denise & Bryon | Engagement Session | Alamo Square, Baker Beach, San Francisco | April 19th

Filed under: Uncategorized — dawnstoloff @ 10:14 pm

Sunday was the hottest day of the year. I had my regular black sneakers on that I wear to do shoots, and needless to say, my feet were boiling hot. Thank god I had my flip flops in the back of the car, because I don’t know what I would have done without them, I love shooting in flip flops! Anyway, I met up with Denise and Bryon at Alamo Square in my flip flops. They were both in a fantastic mood, and I could tell they were really excited about our session. Denise and Bryon are getting married at the “Palace Hotel” in San Francisco at the beginning of August. I have never shot there, and I’m super excited to have some of those images in my portfolio. It was so hot that day, we started off shooting in the shade of a Weeping Willow… “Saule Pleureur”  (in French). I was IMMEDIATELY captured by the simple and super easy going nature of Denise and Bryon. They also emanated…some sort of CLARITY. There is a comfort in their relation ship that makes you think that without a doubt, these two are made for each other. Therefore, I wanted the photos to express those things: simplicity, comfort, clarity, and a certain “Foreverness”. It’s funny, the 3 of us felt so comfortable together, it was like we had known each other for a long time, and were used to hanging out together every Sunday. I like how the photos have a “Sunday Feel” as well. It didn’t bother us that you could see people in the background. I was a bit obsessed by Denise’s face, which reminded me of a perfect china doll, and radiates so much light and beauty. The portraits I did of them are some of the favorite portraits I’ve done. The light in open shade that day was simply beautiful. Thanks Denise  & Bryon, I can’t wait to shoot your wedding in August!

Rebecca & Kelvin | Engagement session | San Francisco | April 18th, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — dawnstoloff @ 5:04 pm

I had a great time shooting Rebecca and Kelvin’s engagement session. Rebecca and Kelvin are getting married on May 23rd. With them, I was naturally able to follow my creative concept, and they helped me achieve it. For some reason, when I started shooting with them, I was drawn to simple, angular, suttle modern lines. It was an easy flow. We had never met before, yet we were able to completely connect creatively, with me giving only minimal direction. I felt they knew exactly what I wanted to do before I’d ask them to. We started off at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, then made our way to the Financial District towards Belden Place where all the French and Italian restaurants are. They both had a very natural way of being fashion forward and it completely gelled with my style. We didn’t need to make too much conversation, we were just shooting and having an amazing time. Kelvin was very confortable, knew how to look relaxed, natural and UBBER COOL all at the same time without even trying. And…needless to say how unbelievably DROP DEAD gorgeous Rebecca was as a model. It was a privilege to be able to shoot this edgy, modern, “Totally San Francisco” Couple’s engagement session. THANKS Rebecca & Kelvin!

Emily & John | Engagement Session | San Francisco | April 11th 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — dawnstoloff @ 5:57 pm

I drove to the city on Saturday to meet Emily and John on Union Square for their engagement session. Emily and John are a young, super fun couple that flew in from Idaho to visit John’s family that is from the Bay Area. they are getting married in New Port Beach in August. We connected right away. Emily has a contagious laugh that was great to capture and John was a real trooper, not afraid of being in front of the camera, and enjoying goofing around the whole time and playing the part. EVERYWHERE you look in down town is a photo opp. Even though it was crazy crowded on a Saturday, we were able to find some cool empty streets to shoot. I also used the crowd as part of my creative process that day, to capture the dynamism of being in the heart of the city. It was really fun to play around with urban elements: angles, shadows, cars, poeple crossing the street, passing by, the buildings, cafes, Hotel lobbies are also GEAT to shoot in. As a result, we got some ultra modern,/fashion/urban/sophisticated shots and at the same time retaining the cute/romantic/natural energy that emanates from Emily and John together. Thanks Emily and John for a GREAT SESSION!

A walk in Bolinas on a Grey Thursday afternoon | April 9, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — dawnstoloff @ 12:33 am

Decided to take a brake from my computer and take a stroll with my Pierre. I love the way an overcast sky makes colors pop. There are no harsh shadows, so it enables the detail in texture to snap. Love the way the graffiti and Grey rocks look in this photo below of Pierre. Pierre took one of me while I was taking a picture of the luscious , green hill side. Love this picture, gave me some ideas for engagement sessions in the future…I’m obsessed with graffiti and crazy colors at the moment!! Oh and I also spent a good hour of my day checking out San Francisco based wedding photographer, Ben Chrisman’s website. I love his work, find it extremely inspiring and he’s actually been a good role model for me…. All I need, is to book 3 dozen extra destination weddings! Pierre and I are actually flying to Mexico in a few weeks to shoot Brad and Courtney’s Wedding in San Jose Del Cabo! Needless to say, we are beyond excited and can’t wait to post the images. Your eyes are going to fall out of your heads! You wait and see!

Yahaira & Logan | March 28th | Engagement Session

Filed under: Uncategorized — dawnstoloff @ 8:56 pm

Yahaira and Logan drove all the way from San Jose to have their engagement session shot in Bolinas. They came with their adorable son, Aiyden, and Aiyden’s auntie. Needless to say, we had a blast. Yahaira’s bubbly, happy energy was contagious, and it was great to see everyone having such a great time. Logan, who said was camera shy, turned out to be surprisingly relaxed in front of the camera and extremely photogenic. I basically let them do their thing, we went to a few of my favorite locations in Bolinas, the “Bench” overlooking the ocean, the beach downtown, Rose Lane. We changed location as the sun was gradually coming down. We didn’t make it until sunset since Aiyden got wet and they needed to drive back to San Jose. A great time, results in splendid images! That’s what happens when you shoot and have fun with it!
